Moving up!

It is officially Life Food and Beer is up and running!  (Yes, I left out the commas! No, I did not want to add them! :) I wanted the readers to know from the beginning I am not an English Major!)

I literally spent ALL DAY!!! working on this. I did take a few long breaks to look for job, but most of my day was spent working on my blog! And it is kind of ready:)

One day I can pay someone to setup an awesome blog for me, but for now, this will work just fine! This will be my last post with blogger. I can't say I am going to miss it. Blogger is slow, 99.9% of people can not comment on post, and 3/4 of my followers did not appear on my main page. It will not be missed.

I decided today after spending ALL DAY trying to transfer my whole blog to my new website, it wasn't worth the money I would have to pay to find someone to do it for me. The plan was if someone typed in sloaneinflorida.blogspot.com it would transfer you to the new blog. I have spent weeks researching exactly what to do, and today, I decided it was not worth the trouble and risk of losing my old post. All my old post will still be available on My Life in Florida, and you will be able to get to them from the new site, as well.

So, make sure you save the new site to your Google Reader or Bookmarked files. Because after 5 months of blog My Life in Florida is not more.

I also just learned that today was the perfect day to launch the new blog, because I am out of photo space on this one:) It was time!!

Now check out Life Food and Beer

Lighthouse Tour and Sad Goodbye! :(

Sorry for all the horrible typos on my last two post. I was in a hurry to write them and failed to proof-read before posting. I went back and looked at it today and felt embarrassed knowing you guys had to read that!

Last night, we went to the beach for my parents to play in the water one more time before they leave and I made Dijon Roasted Salmon and Asparagus for dinner.

I wanted to post pictures from the beach, but I think they were deleted when Huck uploaded them to my moms computer. I wanted you guys too see how big the waves were. I'll get her to email them to me.

Dijon Roasted Salmon
  • 2 lb Salmon
  • 2 Tbsp Dijon Mustard
  • 1/2 Tbsp Honey
  • Salt and Pepper to Taste
    • Preheat oven to 350.
    • Combined Mustard and Honey together.
    • Spray a foil lined baking sheet with cooking spray and add salmon.
    • Brush on mustard mixture.
    • Bake uncovered for 20 minutes (Cooking times may vary due to thickness.)
    • Remove from oven and serve.
I used a recipe I found on Skinny Taste for Sauteed Asparagus With Dijon.

We tried Jim's Place for breakfast. I ordered the Stuffed Biscuit with Gravy, Cheese, Grated Ham, and Scrambled Eggs. It was SOOOOO good! The gravy tasted spicy and the biscuit was light and flaky. SUPER HEALTHY Right?! :) Everyone else really enjoyed their food as well! For the price, the food was very tasty, and the portions were very large!

After eating, we took my parents to the lighthouse.

It was really windy today as you can tell!!
The wind almost blew my sunglasses off my face!

When we came back home, I took my mom for a bike ride around the neighborhood.

My mommy took a picture of all of us before they left, too. Us and our furry/crossed eyed kids.
My parents left around 1 to start their trip back to Georgia! I started crying as they pulled way! Really I started crying before, but I had my sunglasses on and was able to control it a little better. When their car started pulling away, I couldn't hold it in anymore! I already miss them!! I hate not being able to see them whenever I want. Ewww Why can't they move here!?!?

Huck did everything he could to make me feel better this afternoon! He took me to the beer supply store, to get the supplies, to make my first batch of beer. I plan to make a Key Lime and Mango Wheat. I started to make it tonight, but it was so late, we decided to wait until tomorrow.

Now off to bed. Busy day tomorrow! Easter with one of my old coworkers family and brewing at the Brew Bar. I hope everyone has a great Easter.

Classic Car Auction

We are getting a taste of South Florida Summer. Hot and Humid! Not a good combination for someone with frizzy hair!

Yesterday, I took my parents to Riverbend Park. My parents love the great outdoors and walking :). I made them walk around to look for Alligators. No luck again!!

We did see a family of Cranes. The biggest one was about 4 feet tall. He was huge!!!

Again, I love this tree!! I want to get married by it!

We stopped at Suzy Q's for breakfast on our way to the Barrett Jackson Car Auction, today. I ordered the French Toast with pecans. I thought the pecans would be integrated into the french toast. Instead, they were just sprinkled on top. I was disappointed in the meal.

After eating we made our way to the Palm Beach Fairground. My dad and Huck started watching it on TV last night, and wanted to go when they found of it was just 30 minutes away. I enjoy looking at old cars, and Barrett Jackson was full of them.

 This car was amazing!!

My dad said this is his "Smiling" Face.
Me and Huck want this for our Beach Cruiser.

If you are bored tonight, watch Speed Channel. You will see us on stage. We got lost and wondered on stage trying to find our way to the main exit. My dad said we should of walked up to the car like we were interested in buying it!

New Blog Update

I feel my blog has become a "what I ate out blog" instead of "what I made" blog. I usually try to cook healthier but when I eat out, I do not make the best choices. After my parents leave (which I am already dreading), I will get back to cooking. I have a list of stuff I would like to try to make, and want to work on my picture quality.

Also, I think I have decided on a new blog name! It is on my to do list for next week. Followed by finding a job, applying for more insurance companies, and finishing my article for the paper! Being Semi Retired isn't all it is cracked up to be :)

Make sure you Follow me on Twitter at @MyLifeinFlorida and on Facebook at My Life in Florida for updates on the improved blog.

We are having Dijon Salmon with grilled Asparagus for dinner. I'll post my recipes later tonight or in the morning. It's going to be good!!

MY PARENTS ARE HERE!!

My parents came into town Tuesday night! I haven't seen them in 3 months. This is the longest I have been away from them. My dad gave me a few big hugs and said he had a lot of hugs to make up for!

Tuesday before they arrived, me and Huck were in a meeting with his company all day. I am officially an Insurance Adjuster now, so I am tagging along to learn as much as I can, or just get out of the house. Either one!

His boss took us out for lunch and dinner after the meets. We had lunch at Flanigan's in Stuart. I ordered the Blackened Tuna Hoagie which was a bad chose. It was covered in cheese and greasy.

The black beans and rice were good and less greasy, but had a whole onion on top!

For dinner everyone when to Conchy Joe's. It was right on the water.

Our side of the table ordered, steamed clams, fried gator, conch fritters, and oysters. I also enjoyed a few Blue Moons. Me and Huck split a dozen raw oysters for our dinner. I was still full from lunch. A few people ordered King Crab Legs. If you remember from my previous post, I am a Crab LOVER!!! I physically couldn't eat any more food, but a couple of people were nice enough to give me some of theirs. And it was amazing!! I also tried a couple of coconut shrimp that were really good, too. Oh and the corn bread was great. Sweet and warm. Everything I had was good!

I was so anxious to get home and my parents to get here the whole time we were there. I was having fun but ready to go.

My parents arrived here around 730! We showed them around the house and neighborhood and went to dinner at Jumby Bay. I ordered the Chicken Enchilada Soup.

Yesterday, I took my parents for a tour of Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens. We went to the beach where my mom was attacked by a massive wave. She was pushed forward and did a flip over and pushed across the shells. When she was trying to stand up, I noticed she has shells all in her hair. Me and my Dad laughed so hard. I felt bad after because she scratched her legs really bad and was bleeding, but I'm sure if I had a video camera, it would of been an instant You Tube hit.

For dinner, we when to Tequesta Brewing Company. We even found a beer my dad "Liked", or liked better than all the others. He is a big Bud Light guys. My mom doesn't drink beer at all.

The owner gave us a tour of the brewery, so my parents got to see how the whole brewing process works. Then they got to listen to me and Huck talk about beer and our future plans to open a brewery one day. They were probably bored to death.

After leaving the brewery, we went to Das Dog in downtown Abacoa. I ordered the Frito Dog and a Shiner Bock. Both of which were GREAT! or I was just drunk and hunger.

We walked across the street to the Cigar Shop and they bought a few cigars while I enjoyed my beer and the softest chair ever!!

After leaving, we came home and sat on the porch and smoked cigars. Me and Huck discussed more beer stuff, before I fell asleep in my chair. I was sleeping good when Huck made me get up and go to bed.

I told Huck I want to brew my own batch of beer when my parents leave. I am going to research everything I need on my own! Stay toned! :)

Now I'm taking my parents to look for Gators! Hopefully we will find one!

Sweet Potato

Today was great!! I didn't get up until 9. Laid around until 11. Fixed breakfast. And went shopping! I wanted to get a few things to decorate the house. The walls are so empty.

I bought a few items for the bedroom, but all I could find was a picture and lantern for the bedroom. I suck at decorating. I can't wait for Huck's mom to come down. She doesn't know it yet, but she will be helping me decorate the house :) I did rearrange our living room. It looks a million times better. I'll post pictures later.

For dinner tonight, I made Turkey Burgers, roasted green beans, and baked sweet potato fries.

Baked Sweet Potato Fries

  • 1 Large Sweet Potato- Cut into strips
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Ground Red Pepper (More or Less depending on your heat level)
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 1 Tbsp Oil
    • Preheat oven to 450.
    • Mix together seasons. Coat fries in oil and sprinkle with seasoning mixture.
    • Lay in a single layer and bake for 25-30 minutes.
      • Enjoy!

I coated the green beans in oil and added chopped garlic and salt and pepper. I baked them in the oven for 10-15 minutes.

I wanted to post this picture. It is a rare view of London standing up!! Usually he is sleeping.

"To the Left!!"

I thought I would throw in a couple of him being lazy! Whenever people come over, he thinks he can get on the couch.

Huck doesn't stop him either! It is kind of cute though!!

After dinner, we rode our bikes downtown for $1 drafts. It is cheaper to drink there than buy it at Publix and drink it at home. Better people watching downtown too!

Now time for bed! My parents will be here tomorrow :)!!! I can't wait to see them. I haven't seen them in 3 months!

Seafood Fest

Yesterday was the Jupiter Seafood Festival in Downtown Abacoa. Once we arrived we went straight for the food.

Fried Gator. Some of the pieces were great; others were chewy. I still enjoyed them.

Seafood Divine in a Pita. Really good. It had crab, shrimp, peppers, and onions with a spicy mayo.

We also had a piece of chicken and a some of a funnel cake that some of the other people we were with didn't want. We'll eat anything :)

After eating, I did not feel well. I started getting really hot and physically felt sick. It was only 80 degrees, yesterday. I think I started to get dehydrated because my head was hurting, as well.

Me and Huck came back home, and I drank 3 big glasses of ice water and changed clothes. I started to feel a lot better after that.

We rode our bikes back downtown through a rain shower.

We sat at JJ Muggs Grill and listened to The Long Run, an Eagles Tribute Band. They did a really good job.

We ordered some beer and wings while we listened and people watched.

After eating, Huck wanted to ride the 0 Gravity ride that was at the festival. Terry, one of Huck's coworkers, decided to join us.

Huck was like a little kid on the ride. He had me in tears.

After the ride, Huck found his future Dog/Horse.

This has to be the largest Great Dane ever!

Later in the night, me and Huck made our way to Jumby Bay. They had 2 for 1 beers and a rock band. The best part of Jumby Bay was the old lady that was dancing. She looked like she was in here 70's. Me and Huck both talked about how we wanted to party with her.

Today, i was suppose to clean. My parents are coming on Tuesday (WOW) and I wanted the house to be nice and clean for when they arrive, but instead I spent all afternoon looking a wedding stuff.

Now time for dinner... TACOS!! :) I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!! I'm going to continue enjoying my semi retirement!

Semi Retired

Today, I defined my situation as my Semi Retired phase. So what does a 26 year old Semi Retiree do.

This is a good start!!

Today, we ventured out to Stuart for lunch with one of Huck's coworkers and his wife. After reading a few reviews, I decided on Shrimpers. The website said it was water side. I'm not sure you could get closer than this without actually being in the water.

I ordered the Dolphin Jerked sandwich with Onion Rings.

This were the largest onion rings ever! The fish was really dry and the bun was twice the size of the fish. I just ate some of the bottom bun.

Huck ordered the Crunchy Grouper Ruben Sandwich with Fries. The sandwich came with slaw and thousand island dressing. His sandwich was really good. The fish was cooked well and the slaw and dressing were nice additions.

We have not found that many places down here that are waterfront, so today was a treating. Restaurants on the water are always better!!

With all the nice boats in the marina, me and Huck were talking about buying one. I think this is about all we can afford right now.

Dinner was great. Steak... AGAIN :)

Switched it up with a sweet potato tonight!

Huck also, gave me a complex today:) Another one to add to the list! I have flat feet and he pointed out how my legs are bent in. This is how I normally stand. I have never really noticed how bad it is until Huck took a picture. I'm worried about Back and Knee problems now!! Just something else to worry about ;)
